Representatives of lifelong learning centers from Latvia’s major universities meet at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences

Ingūna Jurgelāne, Head of the Lifelong Learning Center at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences: „We are inviting colleagues from other universities to discuss possibilities of creating a network of university lifelong learning centers. Such a network should encourage cooperation among lifelong learning centers, and eventually would allow creating joint programs, increasing mobility and exchanging of educators and learners, as well as encouraging cooperation in projects. The discussion is organized as part of the project “Mentoring for Adult Education Leaders: Skills to Promote Participation, Gender balance, Inclusion”, that is financed through the EU Lifelong Learning Program – Grundtvig Multilateral Projects scheme.

The discussion will be opened by senior management of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. Representatives from University of Daugavpils, University of Latvia, Rezekne Higher Education Institution, Riga Technical University, Ventspils University College, Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy, and Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences will take part in the discussion. During the discussion, participants will share their experiences. Information will be provided on accreditation of prior experiential and informal learning by higher education institutions. Legal issues of adult education will be discussed, as well.

The concept of Lifelong Learning incorporates all forms of education – formal (elementary, secondary, higher education), as well as informal (providing skills to effectively operate in the modern society and labor market) and everyday learning (skills and experiences gained by means of everyday work and interaction).

Since 2004 more than 3300 learners have participated in lifelong learning programs at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. University’s Lifelong Learning Center offers a variety of education programs – including languages, computers, entrepreneurship, project management, office administration, as well as professional qualification courses to educators. The center also offers University’s courses to other learners.
