Commercialization of research results

Latvian Investment Development Agency (LIAA) has developed a program that supports public research organizations for the commercialization of the research results.

By contributing to the achievement of the Latvian Wise Specialization Strategy, the LIAA promotes the commercialization of research results owned by research organizations both in Latvia and abroad with the aim of increasing the profit of research organizations from the commercialization of research results or converting research results into successful business. 

Within the framework of commercialization projects, the LIAA provides support for the implementation of the following supported activities:

  • Conducting a feasibility study;
  • Preparation of commercialization strategy;
  • Industrial research;
  • Experimental development;
  • Participation in international exhibitions, contact libraries, conferences (seminars) abroad, individual visits and participation in national stands and trade missions organized by the LIAA;
  • Enhancement of industrial property rights - preparation, registration and maintenance of patents for inventions;
  • Preparation of offers for commercialization, including the attraction of experts to market the offer of commercialization;
  • Involvement of experts in the preparation of licenses and other intellectual property transfer agreements.

The program is open to the participation of public research organizations - institutions of higher education, secondary education institutions and university institutes registered in the Register of Scientific Institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as scientific institutes that are derived from public entities.

The total available funding is EUR 8 049 935, which consists of European Regional Development Fund and national budget resources. Support is provided for the planning document - Operational Program 1.2.1. specific support objective "Increase private sector investment in R & D" within the framework of the measure "Support for the improvement of the technology transfer system".
